Captain Scott Leatham, a devoted member of the Tempe Fire Medical Rescue Department, passed away on December 19, 2024, at the age of 39, after a courageous battle with a rare form of cancer. Joining the department in 2013, Captain Leatham served with distinction as a technical rescue technician, SWAT medic, and member of the dive team, embodying dedication and bravery in every role. Promoted to Captain Paramedic in February 2022, he continued to lead with honor and compassion. He was known for his contagious smile and unwavering positivity, always living by his motto, "Attitude is a choice." His optimism inspired all who worked alongside him, even in the toughest times. He is survived by his loving wife and two children, who were his greatest pride and joy. Captain Leatham’s passing marks a profound loss for the Tempe community and the firefighting family, who will forever remember his commitment to others and the selflessness he demonstrated every day. His legacy of service, sacrifice, and dedication will be honored with full departmental honors. He will be remembered not only as a hero and leader but also as a devoted family man whose impact will never be forgotten.
